lab 6W

interior design

Block 6W is an 8-storey office building situated at the Hong Kong Science Park . This project was to convert this existing 20-year-old office building into a modern wet laboratory.

Translating the idea of collaboration and co-working environment into a laboratory requires teamwork and coordination. Our idea was to break down the formal and orderly space of a typical laboratory, with various interactive common areas for different users’ experience. We designed a gathering lounge with booth seating at the entrance lobby, breakout balconies and hot desk bridges on various floors and also designed the passengers’ lift lobbies and lavatories for every floor.

Echoing the purpose of the building, we extracted the concept and combined both technology and humanity - using the impressions of a high-tech smooth and clean details versus humanised textures and scales and transformed into the overall palette of the interior space.

By means of metals, wire mesh, mirrors, tiles, paints and textiles etc., we converted a typical building typology to a lively laboratory and opened up possibilities for the young talented enterprises.

signage design

Inspired by the angular geometries of the interior design, signage design system is minimalistic, angular, connecting lines with rustic, metallic materials to convey the collaborative nature and industrial style of the new co-working laboratory.
