Tree has a symbolic meaning of “nurturing”. Kiangsu Chekiang College (KCCKC) holds a distinctive character with their motto “整齊嚴肅 Be Orderly and Respectful”, the spirit of design is to reflect this calmness and humbleness into the entrance lobby, so students and visitors can identify the school’s value upon their arrival.
Our proposal transformed the entrance lobby into a semi-open hall with two different zones – a parlour and a welcoming lounge. The parlour allows for causal meetings and the welcoming lounge serves as a gathering space with the display of school information. Flexible spatial arrangement allows possibilities for different events, not just a transitional lobby.
Warm wood panels and glass panel with tree patterns form the major part of the space, bringing the outdoor elements into the indoor.

We created a versatile open space that allow student to perform and broadcast campus TV in the morning ; and transform into a reading lounge in the afternoon. Inspired from videographer’s green screen and the school’s colour, we used several types of green coloured acoustic materials to camouflage the walls, with addition of natural daylight to compose an unique backdrop. Movable and modular furniture can be rearranged to accommodate different activities.
